infectious disease R&D projects for global public health

RIGHT Foundation (Research Investment for Global Health Technology Foundation) has announced the  recipients of its Product Development Award and the Evidence Generation Award from the 2022 Request for Proposals (RFP).

The awardees are:

  • Compelling Works(Uganda)
  • University of Ibadan (Nigeria)
  • Luke International (Malawi)
  • Instituto Nacional de Saude (Mozambique)
  • EuBiologics(Korea)
  • Noul (Korea)
  • Quadmedicine (Korea)

These projects cover a diverse range of research areas, including:

  • Critical analysis of the public health value of digital health technologies on the delivery of maternal and child health services in Uganda
  • Evaluation of the applicability of digital tools for infectious disease surveillance in Nigerian communities
  • Public health assessment of Malawi’s digitized Infrastructure COVID-19 Study
  • Evaluation of digital health solutions for laboratory diagnosis of endemic and pandemic diseases in Mozambique
  • Development of a pentavalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine to support the global meningitis eradication efforts
  • AI-driven all-in-one diagnostic platform to support malaria parasite detection in settings where highly trained microscopists are scarce
  • Development of a microneedle array patch  to deliver measles-rubella vaccine and help close the  immunization gap in low resource settings

The RIGHT Foundation is a Korean funding agency dedicated to support global health R&D, established in 2018 by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of South Korea (MOHW) the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Korean life science companies with the mission of alleviating the disproportionate burden of infectious diseases  in the low-middle income countries (LMICs). Since its establishment, the RIGHT Foundation has committed 63 billion KRW to support 50 projects.

“The new PDAs will contribute to global efforts to control meningitis, malaria, measles and rubella, all of which show a significant inequity globally. We’re particularly excited about launching the Evidence Generation Award. It reflects our intent to anchor our product development efforts in the local knowledge from the partners in the LMICs.  We want to learn from and with our partners.”, said Hani Kim, the Executive Director of the RIGHT Foundation.
