The Research Investment for Global Health Technology Foundation (RIGHT Foundation, www.rightfoundation.kr) is a non-profit foundation established through a public-private-partnership among the Korean government, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Korean Life science companies. Our mission is to contribute to improving health and health equity globally through collaborations between Korean and international life science researchers. The RIGHT Foundation, to be referred to as “the Foundation” from herein, is currently seeking a qualified candidate for:

The team

The core function of the Investment Portfolio Management team is to:

  • Oversee proposal selection process per internal investment guidelines
  • Actively analyze and track progress of investments at the portfolio level
  • Develop, refine and ensure compliance to the internal investment guidelines governing the Foundation’s investment process


Position Summary

The (Senior) Investment Portfolio Management Officer ((S)IPMO)’s primary responsibility is to 1) lead the project management during the proposal selection during each funding call for proposal (Request for Proposal, RFP) and/or supplemental funding, 2) actively track, analyze and communicate the progress of the funded grants at the portfolio level, 3) develop and ensure compliance with the Foundation’s internal investment guidelines throughout the proposal selection and grant management, and 4) oversee and effectively utilize the internal investment system, 5) actively engage with key stakeholders throughout the proposal selection (e.g., external reviewers, RIGHT Foundation Selection Committee). This role requires a high level of skills in portfolio management and process management, and excellence in professional communication. The (S)IPMO will be expected to collaborate closely with all teams at the RIGHT Foundation, especially the Programs and Strategy team who will lead the development of the RFPs and the management of individual grants.



Core Responsibilities

# Oversight of the proposal application, evaluation, and planning

  • Support the IPM Director in developing an annual plan for RFPs and evaluation, and budget
  • Lead the proposal selection process during each RFP and/or supplemental funding
  • Prepare and disseminate documents related to the proposal application and evaluation
  • Respond to inquiries from the applicants regarding the RIGHT RFP process
  • Collaborate with the IT officer to prepare investment management system for proposal selection process
  • Conduct eligibility check based on the requirements stated in the RFP, due diligence of applications, and negotiation of a Grant Agreement per internal investment guidelines
  • Organize meetings or webinars related to the proposal application and evaluation as needed
  • Develop relationships and effectively communicate with key stakeholders (i.e., external reviewers, members of the Selection Committee, applicants) throughout the RFP, proposal evaluation and Grant Agreement execution

# Portfolio management and analysis

  • Evaluate the efficiency of the investment process and refine the investment process as needed
  • Collaborate with the Programs and Strategy team to track progress of the funded grants at the portfolio level
  • Generate data to track progress and achievements at the portfolio level (e.g., committed funding across disease, and intervention types, progress of funded work along R&D development stage)
  • Present the data in a compelling and effective manner to communicate them to key stakeholders (i.e., funders, partners, grantees)

# Management and compliance of internal investment guidelines

  • Refine and strengthen internal investment guidelines to maintain a rigorous investment process and innovate the process
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Programs and Strategy Team to ensure compliance of the grant management to the internal guidelines

# Effective utilization of the internal investment management system

  • Collaborate with IT officer to run the entire investment process within the investment management system and refine the investment process


Core Skills

  • Proven track record of competence in project management, portfolio management or process management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in professional settings
  • Excellent listening skills to collaborate with other teams effectively
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with key stakeholders including applicants
  • Ability to understand and communicate the foundation’s investment process and strategy to key stakeholders, and to think critically and analyze the portfolio quantitatively and qualitatively
  • Fluency in English or Korean and a high degree of proficiency in the other. Fluency in both languages preferred
  • High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and Power Point and/or other project management tools or analytic tools to communicate the portfolio-level progress effectively


Education & Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years (for Senior IPM Officer) or 7 years (for IPM Officer) of professional experiences with at least 5 years (for Senior IPM Officer) or 3 years (for IPM Officer) of experience in project or portfolio management is required, preferably in the Foundation’s investment areas or global health field
  • Bachelor’s degree in life science, medical science or human biology or a related discipline is required. An advanced degree in the above-mentioned disciplines or a discipline related to the Foundation’s investment areas is a plus
  • Experience working in international organizations or with international partners is desirable
  • Experience working in Korean R&D funding organization or research institutes is an asset

Working Conditions

  • Recruiting type: Regular (3-month probation period included)
  • Working hours: 40 hours/week (max. 52 hours a week)
  • Working area: Dongdeok building 4F, 68 Ujeongguk-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul (Anguk station exit #6)
  • Salary: TBD after discussion. The Foundation offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience
