The Research Investment for Global Health Technology Fund Foundation (RIGHT Fund, www.rightfoundation.kr) is a non-profit foundation established through a public-private-partnership among the Korean government, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Korean Life science companies. Our mission is to contribute to improving health and health equity globally through collaborations between Korean and international life science researchers. Position Summary
Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) will act as a key thought partner to the Executive Director (ED, equivalent to CEO) in developing and executing the Fund’s strategy. CSO will lead the Fund’s strategy development to support the Fund’s mission. S/he will act as the ED’s deputy in building partnerships with local and global actors, and help design high-quality qualitative and quantitative analyses, elevate key insights, and communicate those insights to the fund’s key stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities
[Strategy / Portfolio Development]
  • Synthesize and communicate high-quality analyses based on available data and publications to identify opportunities and risks to the Fund’s operation
  • Lead annual review and refining of strategy, and annual planning for execution
  • Identify and oversee implementation of research and analytical work to support decision-making, including quantitative analyses
[Partnership Development]
  • Act as the ED’s deputy as needed in representing the Fund, and engaging with the key stakeholders domestically and internationally
  • Engage with international partners from life science industry, government and academia to facilitate collaboration
[Provision of Thought Partnership to Investment Team ]
  • Develop the Requests for Proposal to support successful execution of the Fund’s strategy  
  • Initiate, plan and lead key forums to facilitate the development of new partnerships  
  • Provide a thought partnership with the investment team to identify risks to successful execution of the grant goals and seek solutions
  • Provide technical and strategic oversight to the investment team as needed
  • Lead evaluation of completed grants to guide refinement of strategy and investment portfolio in collaboration with Investment teams

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and with sensitivity across barriers such as language, culture, and distance 
  • Strength in structured problem solving and strategic planning, with the ability to identify and analyze core issues
  • Understanding of healthcare R&D, product development and regulatory fundamentals is preferred
  • Ability to learn new content quickly, identify connections and second-order implications
  • Fluency in English or Korean and proficiency in the other
  • A sense of humour
Education & Experience
  • A PhD with at least 5-7 years of post-PhD level work experience or a Master’s degree with at least 10 years of work experience in a domain that requires a high level of critical thinking and problem-solving skills - Experience either in managing portfolio of investment/projects or business development (Vaccine, Therapeutics, Diagnostics, Digital Health, etc.) is preferred
  • Experience in an international non-profit organization is preferred

Working Conditions
